Man Sues after Botched Nose Job and Many Surgeries

botched-surgery-image

It shouldn’t take twenty surgeries to fix a slight nose disfigurement. A 35-year-old man who approached a plastic surgeon for mild cosmetic work on his nose in 2006 has undergone more than 20 surgeries since then and now has a plastic tube in his nostrils simply to breathe.

Not surprisingly, the man has filed a medical malpractice lawsuit against the cosmetic surgeon, accusing him of leaving his nose grossly deformed.

The initial surgery to improve the nose appeared to go well, but trouble started when the patient began to suffer from breathing problems afterward, according to an ABC News report about the case. He made return visits to the surgeon, and it was then that the problems really began. The surgeon recommended additional surgeries, and between June 2006 and November the following year, the man had at least eight more surgeries by the same surgeon.

Even after those surgeries, the man continued to face breathing problems. Between August 2011 and July 2012, the man had an additional 14 surgeries.

Ultimately, he began to suffer a series of infections, and finally his nose had to be amputated. He expects the total number of surgeries to reach 30 by the time his nose is reconstructed and he is able to breathe without pain.

Unfortunately, cosmetic surgeries and the risks involved are often taken very lightly. Doctors may attempt surgeries without the skill they require or fail to recognize the side effects and surgical complications that might follow. The cosmetic surgery industry has thrived on promoting a casual attitude toward these surgeries, luring patients by promoting short hospital stays, exaggerating results, and understating level of pain and discomfort involved.
